is a fox news weather center. i'm harris faulkner in tonight for shepard smith. we are tracking what has already been a dangerous and deadly winter storm. one that has triggered dozens of tornadoes and created a travel nightmare for people looking to get home after christmas. the storm blamed for killing at least six people so far. and right now we're starting to see some storm activity in manhattan, new york. we understand this is just the beginning for the east coast tonight. we have seen what it's done in communities in the nation's mid section. in arkansas. it knocked out electrical power to some 200,000 homes and businesses. one utility company reporting there people may have to go without power for a week. and in illinois and indiana roads covered with snow and ice making it too dangerous to drive. four snowplows slid right off the road. last night at this time we were telling you about that major tornado that hit mobile, alabama, incredibly emergency crews say no one was badly hurt. >> christmas day tornado going through mobile. oh my god, look, that's the tornado. oh wow

world consider yourselves warned. i'm harris faulkner in tonight for shepard smith. we are learning u.s. forces could soon be headed to the syrian border. their mission part of nato's plan to put patriot missiles at the line between turkey and syria. those patriots are designed to intercept any potential missiles coming from syria. and defense officials say any country that sends its equipment is likely to send their own troops to operate it we're told no one has signed deployment orders officially just yet. it's almost certain at this hour u.s. troops will be on the move. there is absolutely no indication our fighting men and women would cross into syrian territory. but the pentagon has told the obama administration it would require more than 75,000 soldiers to secure syria's chemical weapons stockpile. it's impossible to say exactly how much that would cost. but the price tag for that sort of operation could easily run into the billions of dollars. now, again, there is no indication at all that such an operation will happen any time soon. all this coming just days after president obam

your help as search is on for two bank robbers who busted out after federal prison. harris faulkner with the latest from our breaking news desk. >> reporter: the escape has been called daring and they are now being hunted. police want the public to see these pictures. here where we are in the story, 37-year-old joseph banks, known as the secondhand bandit and his former cellmate, 38-year-old ken negotiate conley were thought to be in a wooded area called tinley park south of chicago. swat teams moved in on a house in that area late yesterday and the men were gone. they believe banks and conley, that you see now on your screen, were at the home after they busted out of federal prison. tinley park is 25 miles away from the downtown lockup where they escaped from. we're learning more details how they did that. they used bedsheets to make a rope long enough to lower themselves down 15 floors. the timing though is interesting because the men were unaccounted for at the 5:00 a.m. headcount yesterday morning according to the u.s. marshal service and search with choppers and k-9 units did not be

. back to you guys. jon: all right. harris faulkner working the story from our breaking news desk. again, we have been told to expect a police news conference in about ten minutes, but very often in a situation like this those things get pushed back and back and back. still a very chaotic situation even as recently as, oh, half an hour ago or perhaps a bit more when we were speaking to the mayor of danbury, he said that the sweep of the school was still underway. police go in in a situation like this, they have to make sure that they have covered every base and cleared every classroom, so they have a sizable elementary school that houses normally about 600 students to go through, and they were still upside way with that project -- underway with that project within the last hour. so, again, we have it confirmed that there are at least five children and four adults who are dead in this situation, but the number could go higher. jenna: we're actually hearing some confirmation that the number probably is higher at this time and also learning a little bit more about the shooter in this
